PH. D. karolina panz joins our project

Our project “Call me Isza. Femininity: the Jewish-Polish Women’s Heritage” is not an easy undertaking. We are dealing with an extremely difficult subject: the Jewish-Polish women’s heritage. The perspective we have chosen to present is also an additional challenge: the local micro-scale, which is often characterised by uncertainty. This is why the support that community activists receive from each other is so important.

Today we are delighted to introduce one of our wonderful supporters – a person who shares her vast knowledge, experience and enthusiasm with us. She is a sociologist at the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences, a member of the Poland Forum and the Finkler Institute for Holocaust Research, and the winner of the 2015 Israel Gutman Prize for the best academic article on the Holocaust.

Her academic work focuses on the life and extermination of Jews in the Polish countryside and Polish-Jewish relations, with an emphasis on micro-history and oral history. These are topics that are closely related to our project. We hope that our work together will uncover the heritage of the Jewish women who once lived in the areas of Myślenice, Dobczyce and Wiśniowa.
